An optimized synthesis of BODIPY dyes is reported, combining batch and continuous flow techniques for enhanced efficiency. 1H-NMR monitoring indicated rapid dipyrromethane formation, completing within 2 minute compared to traditional multi-hour reaction times. The condensation/oxidation steps were integrated into a continuous flow process followed by batch borylation, yielding BODIPY derivatives with yields up to 84%. This approach minimizes side-products, simplifies purification, and enables gram-scale production (to 26 g/day), broadening the applicability of these versatile dyes.
