Efforts to enhance sustainable practices across all industries are strategically important, environmentally sound, and economically practical. Since its inception, green chemistry principles have been rooted in the idea of improving overall efficiency of chemical processes which compliments the evolution of organic synthesis and the drive to devise processes that enhance chemical complexity at minimal economic and environmental cost. With this in mind, the goal of this book chapter is to capture recent improvements, both directly and indirect, that relate to more sustainable practices. Improvement to reaction set-up, reagent selection/reaction design, and the implementation of new reaction types is discussed. The applications of these improvements to the synthesis of pharmacons is also discussed.
