Experiments to evaluate the solid handling performance were carried out in the HANU 2X 5 flow reactor (Creaflow, total internal volume: 7 mL; 5 mL reactor channel volume plus 1 mL inlet and 1 mL outlet volume) with 2 x 2 x 2 mm cubic static mixers and with a pulsator pump (Creaflow, Beta/5 pump with a Hastelloy pump head and PTFE membrane). The starting suspension of SiO2 or activated charcoal in H2O was fed to the pulsator pump using a Vapourtec SF-10 peristaltic metering pump. To avoid entering air bubbles, an adjustable back-pressure regulator (BPR) by Vapourtec was placed after the reactor plate, and was set to a constant pressure of 3 bar. The parts of the experimental setup were connected using 1/8″ OD (1.6 mm ID) PTFE or PFA tubes along with stainless steel fitting. Photos and detailed description of the system are available in the Supp. Info.
