Monitoring and controlling zeolite synthesis via reactor-based solutions: a fed-batch strategy

Conventional zeolite synthesis is typically performed in closed batch autoclaves, which cannot be monitored or controlled during the process. Studying time-dependent parameters using the traditional “cooling-opening” method is labor-intensive, less accurate, and does not allow intermediate additions without disrupting synthesis. In this study, a fed-batch (FB) reactor was used to enable one-pot zeolite syntheses with real-time sampling. This approach reduced material use and time while allowing controlled precursor additions at reaction conditions. Stannosilicate and zincosilicate syntheses were performed to investigate timed additions and optimize heteroatom feeding, which is challenging in conventional methods. A modified FB platform also enabled online monitoring of key parameters (T, P, pH), improving insight into synthesis events that are typically measured ex situ.
