How does the behaviour of a chemical process change when moving from laboratory-scale flow chemistry to pilot-scale equipment?
Students at the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier (ENSCM), France, will soon have the opportunity to explore this question through practical experiments.
A Vapourtec R-Series flow chemistry system has recently been installed at ENSCM, where it will be used alongside existing pilot-scale continuous stirred-tank reactors (CSTRs).
The practical sessions will allow students to investigate the differences between laboratory and pilot-scale continuous processing, helping connect theoretical principles with hands-on experience.
Dr Laurence Soussan, with the assistance of Eng. Loubna Karfane, is developing the sessions as part of ENSCM’s teaching programme in process scale-up and sustainable chemical processing.
The programme is expected to begin in February 2027, for implementation with students during the 2027-2028 school year. We look forward to hearing about the students’ experience.
