Date: 23 March 2018 | Category: News

Flow chemistry engineering firm Vapourtec has linked up with Professor Thomas Wirth, one of the leading experts in continuous flow electrochemical reactors, for their latest project; to develop a Versatile Continuous Flow Laboratory Scale Electrochemical Reactor.
Currently Professor of Organic Chemistry at Cardiff University in UK, Thomas’ research activities include the use of micro reactor technologies for, dangerous reactions, radiochemical synthesis and to achieve unusual reaction conditions. 2011 onwards, The Wirth Group at Cardiff has published many papers describing their developments and use of continuous flow electrochemical reactors in organic synthesis.
The collaboration between Vapourtec and Prof. Thomas Wirth has been ongoing since 2017. Progress with the reactor has been excellent and the expectation is for Vapourtec to bring this exciting new electrochemical reactor to the market later this year.
Vapourtec founder and MD Duncan Guthrie explained: “We’re delighted to be working with such a high profile expert in the field of electrochemistry as Professor Wirth.
“The project involves the design, development and testing of a versatile laboratory scale electrochemical reactor to be used either stand-alone or fully integrated with Vapourtec’s range of flow chemistry systems” added Duncan.
Professor Wirth commented: “I’m pleased to be able to play my part in developing the next generation of electrochemical reactor technology.”
